The Cafeteria Lady's Proof

This is after Daltrey had been eating a few minutes. The flinging is way worse when he first starts — I usually have to empty pellets out of my shoes. Mr. Fry calls it his tic. Part of the reason the Cafeteria Lady has a job is that if I put all his food in the pan at once, he'll fling 98 percent of it. He does this even if the food is in a bucket. The less food in the pan at one time, the more that stays there, so I dole out bits at a time. Note all the food on the rim of the tire and on the ground around it. When the bucket is empty and the pan is empty (for the last time), he and Jaz pick every last pellet from the sand. They're not the poster boys for Sand Clear, but they should be.

That's strange... He's very pretty though =)

My mare does the same thing! She pushes the grain around in her grain dish with her nose then takes her foot and tips it over so she can eat it off the ground! One of her many tics, I guess!

Gee-that is a 'tic'-LOL. Shooter used to fling his food all over too. He outgrew that (thank goodness), so hopefully just a baby thing for D as well?.

Moon on the other hand...has never outgrown slobbering feed all over and my sorrel horse, Bugs has to have a hanging feeder because he paws and stomps while he eats. Moon is just a slob, but Bugs definitely has a tic.

funny that he does that , can you goop it up with a little oil or molasses to make it stick together better?Alomost looks like he is searching for the "good bits"

Odd puppy!

I'd be laying down some rubber mats and just spreading the pellets on the mats.

I hate to admit this but I have several colts that do that. Makes me crazy to see their food getting flung around the stall. I have tried gooping it up, feeding less. Nothing works.

I swear it has something to do with being exited over the "good stuff" and they're just throwing it up in the air, whooping it up.

I soak my pellets so he of the spotty butt can't fling them. Now he wears mash lipstick :)

Putting the pan in the tire has helped so it takes more work for him to flip it with a foot. I also sometimes stand at the ready with a dressage whip and when he starts pawing, I make the game show noise and just tough the offending foot.

I have tried adding water and all that does is make more of a mess. He still "stirs" it and flings. I keep hoping this is a baby trait he outgrows. Meanwhile, thank goodness for Sand Clear.

Hmmm, maybe he doesn't like the rubbery smell of the pan?
I put rocks in Pippin's feed bin to slow him down, but I don't think that would help here. I think you'd just get rocks flung all over the place!
