Sunday in Pictures

In this heat, I like to get going early.

The sunrise alone was worth the effort.

Someone had a hard time staying focused during our ride. Oh look, a girl. Oh look, another girl. Is that a butterfly? Another girl! Ooh, a bit of hay. Talk about flaky.

Sorry, guys. I know you'll hate this photo.

An August rain in Texas is pretty rare, so no one even minded that we had to cut our first ride short. We yakked for awhile after the rain stopped, then I decided to take my chicharrĂ³n for a short ride bareback in the half of the arena that drains well. Nita and Heather joined us bareback on Cayenne and Ishka as well. We just walked because the sand was slick. For Poco and me, it was more of a token ride than anything.

I spent a few minutes with Baby D (Daltrey), touching and grooming. He just loves being brushed and scritched. Someone is coming to look at him and Rico on Thursday, so fingers crossed for Heather.

And now I'm really a horse owner: after watching Heather give Poco his rabies vaccination, I gave Jaz his.

Yikes - giving shots. I thought it was only licensed health care professionals and drug addicts. But then my horse got hives and I was a needle woman. Crazy.

Glad you got a ride in - wish some of that rain would drift south...

Sounds like an excellent ride. And it's always good to know how to give a shot.

Beautiful sunrise. Nothing better than a nice morning spent with horses and friends. Even if it did rain you out.

I'm impressed that you're permitted to give Rabies Vax there. My vet tells me it's not legal for horse owners to give them, although we can vax for everything else.
My dog vet says the same thing.
I still don't like to give shots, either. It's a necessary evil. But I always feel like I'm going to kill my horse somehow. gah!

Looked like a fun rain, even the rain. It's fun to visit with like-minded horse friends when it's too wet to ride.

Jazu looks amazing, by the way. Did you roach his mane? Normally I like natural manes, but Jazu's trim really accentuates his neck and head beautifully.

Lisa, I was surprised that Dr. G was able to sell me the vaccine. I mentioned that I thought he had to administer, but he said only to small animals. We can't buy it anywhere else than from a vet, though.

I started roaching Jaz a long time ago. He grows a nice mane, but rubs it out. He's one of those that always has rain rot or allergies to something or other going on. It's easier to treat his mane bed when he's roached. He has a pretty neck, so I don't mind it so much.
