Rockin' Down the Road

Jazu the Wonder Pony at the honey hole

With a high today in the lower 70s, it was perfect for a ride down our old familiar road. Jaz and I haven't done this ride since last spring, but he was a champ. He remembered where The Usual Suspects (madly barking dogs) were and marched right on past. There were even 2 new little yapping dogs running loose that ran after and he stayed completely calm. Stupid people. Good way to a) have a lawsuit brought against you if I come off my horse or b) get your dogs killed because you're in violation of the rule about no loose dogs.

And while we're on the subject of stupid people, whatever happened to common courtesy? We live on a narrow 2-lane road, and people were flying past us. I kept motioning for people to slow down and was getting the dirtiest looks. Jaz is good with cars, but there's no sense tempting fate. I don't understand what it would hurt to slow down a little – you don't have to brake, just take your foot off the gas for a second. I'm sure they would expect similar courtesy from me if I came upon them walking or their kid on a bike.

But enough of that. Great relaxing ride down our road, and I hope to get in another before the Boyz go back to Iron Ridge next week.

Happy New Year to all!

I am always horrified by the drivers who pass me while I'm driving my Clyde. It is horrendous.

One time, the person in the passenger seat rolled down their window and tried to pet her!!!

It sounds like Jaz did great considering the venue hadn't been visited since last spring. Coming back from the animal shelter today in my car, I came upon a slow moving pickup truck hauling a lot of stuff that hadn't been tied down well enough, and he had four cars bumper-to-bumper behind him. One impatient driver was halfway in the oncoming lane and wouldn't move over so I could keep driving in my lane. I had to swerve onto the shoulder to avoid a half-on head-on. I found another blog by horse people who live in my general vicinity and realized that my neighbor situation isn't unique. They had loose dogs that killed all the chickens in the neighborhood.

Good for you getting out for a ride despite the rude drivers and loose dogs. I have serious issues with loose dogs and their owners after having several of my friends getting hurt by loose dogs.

I also don't like it when loose dogs come on to my property and harass my horse, llamas, goats, and my own dogs who are on my own property where they're supposed to be.
It only takes a moment for their dogs' instincts to kick in and attack my chickens and I doubt the owner would cover all the costs I've spent in raising and caring for my chickens and the future monetary loss.

And I really am offended when loose dogs use my property as their bathroom leaving piles of poop around my house.

I really wish people would stop being so inconsiderate and irresponsible and keep their dogs indoors when they're not home, or keep them in a dog run.

Good boy Jazz! Sometimes I wonder about drivers, they seem to fail to realise if it goes really wrong and they sppok the horse in front of them , they too can be killeed. Common sense is just not that common anymore.Happy new Year to you and all of your family furry and human

Glad you had a good ride, other than a few annoying dogs and some inconsiderate drivers.

Speaking of rude drivers, how about this one: I was riding down our road when I heard a vehicle coming up fast from behind us. It sounded big. I got in the ditch asap and a large truck with a 4 horse trailer FLEW by kicking up gravel and dust. WTF I thought another horse person would have been more considerate!

Most places on our road have wide grassy easements. Others are wide with sparse grass and a top layer of flat, slippery rocks. I don't mind going down into the ditch as long as the footing is good and dry and it's not too steep. Jaz is NOT surefooted, (which is one huge plus Poco had over him). And there are a few places where the sides of the road drop severely and there's simply no place to go.

The lack of consideration and stupidity of people will never cease to amaze us, I'm sure.

Aside from that, your ride sounded wonderful - good for you, and good for Jaz.

Happy New Year, Leah.

How nice that you got a good ride in.
Yeah... people are stupid! They just don't get it!
I hate the ones who decide to see if they can make your horse spook...honking their horn or yelling out the window!

Glad you had a good Jaz ride, and stayed safe. There always has to be a few numbskulls on the road...not much we can do but keep trying to educate people.

Saw your post on Fern Valley's, I'll tip ya & my other blogger friends a New Years cheer! "Clink" Happy New Year!!

Glad you had a good ride, regardless of stupid people.

Happy New Year to you, Mr. Fry and all the critters!

Happy New Year!! Glaf you got out and got a ride in despite all the stupid people around. I am lucky we have lots of land to ride on and stay off the roads, as well as being in a ranching area, everyone has horses and they slow down (even though I think its mostly to snoop, lol) whatever works.
