Successful Sunday

The shim seems to work! The breast collar needs another hole punched in it, but other than my having to be ever-mindful of saddle placement, we're golden. Except for the part where he backs up whenever I get in position to mount. Part of it is because the saddle caused him pain in the past, but the other part is, of course, now he knows he can. It may take a couple times, but he'll come back around. When all else fails, there's always cookies. Both my horses' motto could be, "Will whore for cookies."

I did ride him, but there are only stills and they suck, or should I say, I look like a middle-aged slob with a horrible seat and terrible posture. Besides that, I need to go through the almost 90 photos she took and optimize any I want to post. There are a couple of decent ones of Poco himself, and you'll finally get to see Heather and Nita.

For your viewing amusement, here are Pokey and I playing in the round pen.

Good job, what fun.
I know what you mean about photos. I finally decided that I am 50 years old, over weight, and have a battered body so I don't look to great in a saddle but at least I am out there having fun and doing something. Maybe it will inspire others to get busy to.

Yay! You guys look like you were having fun...he kept stopping and looking at you like "okay, I ran, where's my freakin' cookie? Can't you see I'm starving?" Too funny!

He is such a cutie. He looks so spunky, like a little kid. I could watch him all day :)

Glad to hear that the shim is working, nothing worse than trying to figure something that's wrong with something that can't just tell you.

Cute video!

I was wondering how big is your round pen? I know you mentioned trouble lunging before, I have seen some horse do better in smaller pens. Since your is grown and has no developing leg bones - could a smaller pen help?

I had a gelding once that if he knew that you were out of range (too far away to touch him with a whip or flag or chuck a rock at his rump) he would be the biggest pill ever - NO round pen techniques would work with this horse NONE I tried them all. Unless you call spanking his ass a technique.

Pokey is so cute!!! ... and so very "fluffy". He looks like he has wintered well, as so many Appys often do. hee hee!! (don't tell him I said that!) He does indeed look like he's saying - ok, I did it, now can I have my cookie!?

He's a cutie! I love how he peeked at your camera operator each time he made his round.

Well he definately looks like he's full of some P&V! lol
I think Steph has a point, he may be easier to longe in a smaller pen. But one thing I do like about the size of yours is that you can ride in it.

i love when a plan comes together.. i have a specialized saddle and they too come with shims and velcro and you can adjust to fit almost any horse.. The good news is .. it's so adjustable and that's sometimes the bad news too... since it's hard to get it just so!

happy trails and videos

My round pen is +/- 60 ft. I wanted it big enough to ride in because I like the "no worries" aspect of riding in a RP. I'm such a poor rider, it does me a lot of good to get in there and concentrate on my body rather than trees, holes, rocks, kamikaze buddy horse, etc. Believe it or not, I actually have to steer him in the RP because it's not perfectly round. Some of the panels come together at sharper angles than others. He'll try and walk into one like it's a real corner.

Heather's RP is +/- 110 ft., which is waaay too big to longe (at liberty), but it's very fun to ride in.

Yes, Poco's attitude is indeed, "OK, I ran, give me a cookie." I didn't, though.

And he's always "fluffy". He's just a tank, what can I say. He's really not that fat (for him) right now, but he is very out of shape, which makes the difference. Doesn't take much to muscle him up though.

Doesn't he look handsome in his tack?!

He looked like he was having so much fun!
I love turning mine out in the arena to run. I don't have a round pen so sometimes it can be a challenge getting them to move out if they aren't on a longe line in my arena. Plus I can barely run because of bad knees.
