Wee Walkabout

Jaz and I went for a short
walkabout this morning
after I finished my chores.

It was gray and breezy.
He was jumpy and wide-eyed
even as I was saddling him.

Don't pull that
"I'm a spooky, highstrung Arabian"
crap with me, Bubby.
We're going, y'hear?

I walked him 1/8 - 1/4 mile
to let him chill out,
then hopped on.

We went 1/2 - 3/4 mile further,
then turned around and
headed back,
past all the scary, noisy
equipment in use at the McMansion
under construction next door.

Trotted a little.
It was ugly.

That fence across the road is ours.
This property is undeveloped.
There's a big dirt mound that
has the only lush grass I know of
this time of year.

Just one of the perks
(besides all the cookies in my pocket)
available to a pony
after giving me a decent ride.

That, and watching your fool buddy
pace and holler himself into a sweat
inside the fence.

Hope you're having a great weekend.

Yay! A ride! I love to read about people riding. It gives me hope that the weather will clear up and I can start riding regularly again soon. I did ride in the muddy round pen at a walk for a few minutes the other day, but then Bombay spooked when Lostine lifted her tail to fart, and I stopped having fun.

Yay! You went riding! And good for Jazz, too. Nice green treat for a good boy. Does he ignore Poco or do they call out to each other?

Winter, I wish I could ride 2 days in a row. It's now Sunday morning, and my Dobie woke me at 5:20 to let me know we are having a thunderstorm. It's raining pretty hard. It had just dried out from the last bouts of rain and snow.

Lisa, Poco carries on the entire time Jaz and I are gone. I discourage Jaz from calling back, which he rarely does. When Jaz is the one left behind, he may call out a few times or not at all. Can you tell who is maladjusted and who's not?

Hee Hee! Jackson absolutely hates leaving his barn buddies too, even Red his sworn enemy is his best friend if I try to go off alone. Herd bound fool...
I must be very strict with him when he starts his backing up and misbehaving, some VERY firm kicks and circling seem to help, but he has a really hard time paying attention and has to verbally yell to make sure his buddies are still at home base. Brat!

So glad you got a ride in! I sometimes feel so guilty that I get to ride whenever I want when others can't.
