Snuggly Bugs

Button Up Your Overcoat
(Brown, De Silva, Henderson)
From the 1929 musical "Follow Through"

Temps tonight will dip to the low 20's,
but the wind chill will be in the 11-15 range.
Brrrrrr!
Scorch and Pokey both have good woolly coats,
and both have seemed comfortable so far.

The truth is, Mr. Fry is a big softie.
He pretty much insisted we blanket them.
I could have borrowed one from Heather and Nita,
but that would have meant driving all the way
up there to get it.

Instead, I stopped at Paul Taylor's
on the way home and bought one for him.
My friends have been so kind to
care for Jaz, the fair-weather pony, the least
I can do is buy their boy a blankey.

All the cheap ones were gone.
All that was left were
the really nice ones.
It's waterproof and adjustable all over.
Also looks to be tough as nails.
I love the way it fits.
He didn't mind at all,
though we did have to halter him
and one of us had to hold him.

Pokey, on the other hand,
stood without being haltered,
and his even has to go over his head.
He does like being toasty.

When it's time to replace his and Jaz's,
I want to get them ones
like Scorch's.

Looks like tomorrow will be a
warm Gatorade kind of morning.

Stay warm and don't forget
to smooch your ponies.

Those are some lucky warm horses --- it is 3 above here and snowy and our outside babies are hunkered against the big round bale filling their tummies keepin' warm... They do have a lean to next to the barn to get out of the cold and some stalls inside but they stay out most of the winter! Stay warm!

I just blogged about our weather & the impending blizzard. We don't blanket here as they are used to Nebraska winters. About the only time I do blanket it when I am camping and the seasons are changing and they don't have room to move around to keep them warm. And anyway, I think the blankets look cool!

I threw the blankets on the kids when I came home from penning on Sunday. Sooo frickin glad I did. With the windchill its been -30C or colder since Sunday night.

BTW That new blanket is NICE :)

Hope you and the boys stay warm!

Nice new blankey for Scorch - he is a big lad!

We are having our first winter storm of the year today (yuck!) and I'm happy knowing that Rusty is tucked in a stall and is fairly warm.

How generous of you. Blankets aren't cheap. They look cozy. I love that snazzy red coat on Pokey.

It's 11 degrees here with a wind chill of 6, but I won't blanket Baby Doll unless it's raining or we have wet snow. She is thickly furry and she eats 24/7 and has access to the barn anytime she wants.

Lisa, Heather and Nita have been so good to me. There's no way I can ever repay them for all they continue to do for me. Remember, they've been dealing with Jaz's strongyles, including running back and forth to the vet 3 days in a row and nursing him on a daily basis. They even hunted down a vet to make an emergency call. They haven't charged me a nickel.

Poco & Scorch are turned out 24/7 and have grazing and a round bale. They have a run-in shed, but don't use it. I've been checking them, and they've seemed perfectly comfortable. Like I said, Mr. Fry is a big softie and insisted we blanket them. When I first got Poco, we had a huge ice storm and he was covered in ice. But he never shivered, nor did he choose to use the shelter we provide. What are ya gonna do?

If I had it to do again, I'd have built less house and built a small barn. 20/20 hindsight. Maybe next go-round.

Our Ponies also get theri blanky's slipped over their heads...pretty easy to teach them. They lower their heads when they see it coming towards them!!! Glad everyone is snug and warm!

Hey, Heather here.....I had to make a login just for this.

I think I owe YOU a ton of thanks Leah! That's a super nice blanket! Man, I don't know if my baby boy is going to ever want to come home now, and NO, you can't keep him!

And, for the even better news for every one keeping track of the Jaz ordeal... he's doing GREAT! No wonky stuff in 2 days, no tenderness in the back at all for 24 hours, and he acts like he is 5 years younger (considering he's only 10, I'm not sure that's such a good thing!). =) He's made so much progress all of a sudden that I'm almost worried to say anything for fear of jinxing it.

My fingers are crossed. Oh, and Leah, tommorrow is O's big day... he's heading off to learn to be a working horse.
