An Exercise in Futility

Alternate title:
My Fifteen Seconds of Clean

Poco is usually the better behaved
for grooming
and grooming only.

Today he fidgeted, fussed, danced,
and was otherwise a royal pain in the patooty.

It finally dawned on me:
I usually tie them together.
One waits while the other gets clean.
I did Poco separately first,
because the morning was a little cool
for my Fair-Weather Pony.

Jaz aka Mr. Prissy Feet
took off as soon as he realized
water was involved.
When he made his reappearance known,
Poco settled down.

My angst-ridden, herd-bound
wienie boy b
efore shaking.

BTW, thanks to Linda over at the 7MSN
for the nifty new quick-release knot.
It took me awhile to learn it,
but I like it better than
the one
I had been using.
The knot pictured doesn't have
the second
'safety'.
It will next time,
since it took Poco
no time at all
to figure out how to undo it.

After shaking

I spy with my Appy eye.

Wrinkledy crinkledy speckledy muzzledy.
His cup overflows with characteristics.

Silly me
thought I'd walk him until he dried off a bit.
After vainly attempting to dissuade him
by pulling his head up,
I surrendered to the inevitable.

While Pokey was rolling, I caught Jaz.
Look how huge Poco's halter is on him.

Not a fan of baths,
Jaz was still the better behaved today.

Another sign of Spring:
Jaz gets flea-specked.

When I untied him,
he took about 3 steps
before
my good work was undone.

I couldn't even grab my camera fast enough.

Sheez, why bother?

I think of it like doing dishes - it just gets done over again, and again and again. But I like the grooming/cleaning up part, so that's OK!

Well even if it was and exercise in futility it was still exercise :)
Not warm enough to wash horses here yet, but when it it all the ones with white are first on the list.

Excellent post as usual Leah, love the movie clips, wish I had a fraction of your writing talent.

I am so jealous that it is warm enough to bath horses in your area!

I'll either keep the horses tied and give them something to eat out of a wheelbarrow until they dry, or I'll let them graze for grass on the RV lane, which is made of pebbles, so they don't want to roll. Then once they're dry I'll cut 'em loose and they can roll all they want, because it's easier to brush dirt off dry hair than wet hair.

You can just see those boys each thinking:

I must get all this CLEAN off me before it STICKS!!!

Tiny got her first bath in a while last Saturday! I love that first bath of the season, and so do they. Don't feel bad, I didn't get photos either...

That's funny..and I'm laughing WITH you. At least they were squeaky clean for a minute or two. Sometimes that's the best we can hope for.

I'm chuckling at the pawing in spot to make it perfect for rolling, then going off to roll in a different place that did not need preparation...

Too cool here yet to give baths, but I can't WAIT!!! My Rosie STINKS!

Loved these videos and pics! Made me laugh to her your voice at the end, too.

Jaz was the most vocal about it...and even showing off his disrespect for the soap and water. lol!

Funny how Poco's mane looked so flat when it was still wet...and BOINGO as soon as it was dry and he had shaken a bit...it really puffed up rock-star style. lol!

Don't think of it as an exercise in futility. You did manage to get them deep cleaned. The dirt rolled in was only on the top layer. hehe!

Oh and I giggled at Poco's cute lips. "Wrinkledy crinkledy speckledy muzzledy" was the perfect assessment of them! :D
